Hackley's Great Pottery Throwdown!

In this immersive week of clay camp, students will dive headfirst into the ceramic studio and take on a series of playful, skill-building pottery challenges inspired by The Great Pottery Throwdown. Each day brings a new prompt designed to stretch their creativity, problem-solving, and technical abilities—whether we're learning to center on the wheel, building sculptural forms by hand, or experimenting with surface decoration and glazing.

Students will learn a mix of throwing and handbuilding techniques, moving back and forth between them as they work through timed challenges, longer projects, and surprise twists that keep everyone on their toes. Along the way, they’ll gain confidence in working with clay, discover their own studio style, and cheer each other on through wins, wobbles, and the occasional dramatic clay moment.

By the end of the week, everyone will have a small collection of finished, one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces—and the very real sense that they just survived (and thrived!) their own pottery throwdown.
