August Adirondack Adventure

This trip takes place in August.

This trip has a lot packed in to just 5 days! Highlights include hiking an ADK 46er, rafting nearly 20 miles on the Hudson River, as well as canoeing on beautiful 13th lake. Each night the group will enjoy roasting s’mores and telling ghost stories around the campfire. We also expect to spend a little time in beautiful Lake Placid one of the evenings and will finish up the trip on Friday with an 18 hole mini golf challenge. Our hike will be one of the ADK 46ers, such as Mt. Marcy, Algonquin, Phelps, or Table Top, for example. All of these peaks involve 8+ miles round trip and are great for students who love to spend a full day hiking and working hard. If that sounds like fun, then this is the trip for you! This summer, we will again partner with Adirondack River Outfitters. They will provide guides and equipment for white water rafting and canoeing. We will also camp at their campsite for two nights. The other two nights of camping will be at the Wilderness Campground at Heart Lake. All of our campsites have water and flush toilets available 24/7.

During this trip the students will learn about the beautiful Adirondack environment, local wildlife, hiking and camping skills, outdoor safety and the Leave No Trace Principles. The instructors have run this trip at Hackley for more than a decade now and we have fine-tuned the itinerary to maximize the FUN! No prior outdoor experience is necessary other than a good attitude and a willingness to be physically active for the whole 5 days. Students should understand that this adventure is physically challenging, but very doable for kids who like to be active from sun-up to sundown each day. For a more detailed itinerary, please contact Glenn Hasslinger and Merideth Maddox.

Week offered is being finalized, either Week of August 17 or week of August 24. Dates will be finalized by 1/31/26.
